Review:

Someone is targeting wounded warriors. As if the suffering for our country wasn't enough! Cathy and Beto are both wounded warriors that met during counseling sessions. Attracted to each other and starting to date, Cathy is raped and Beto was knocked unconscious while the deed was done. He came to and killed the perpetrator. A Hero, right? People are a little more complicated than that.

Beto is heartbroken that Cathy endured that while he was unable to help. He blames his legs, thinking himself as less than whole. He doesn't realize how his behavior is affecting Cathy.
Cathy is horrified and terrified and now, since Beto has stepped back from the romance that had begun twining around them, feels dirty and ashamed. She begins to pull back from Beto. He believes it is because she thinks he can't protect her and his spiral downward continues. It is a nasty cause and effect, turning a nightmare even worse.

I'd love to see more about the other people mentioned in After the Heartbreak. An interesting story line that keeps moving and captures your interest. The emotional pathos that Cathy and Beto feel are heart wrenching. After the Heartbreak is a touching look at the emotions faced by this segment of our current young population and is a tribute to their courage and selflessness in the face of war and the terms that they now have to live with for the rest of their lives.
