Reviews of recent reads ~ Slow Burn ~ Daughter of Valor

This little squirt has been taking up all of my free time. They are only young once and you can't blame anyone for spending time with their first grandchild!

However, I can't NOT read, lol. So I've been spending sleeping time reading other author's books. I've found some great reads too. Here are a few of my reviews.

Gritty and down to earth, I was immersed in the world of Derrick and Sonja. From the cigar lounge to the stage, the beat of their lives surrounded me as they came together fast and furious, not realizing the implication of the binding of their souls. Fast paced, Slow Burn takes you on a tumultuous ride behinds the scenes of an ex-spy and a death metal singer as their lives twine together.

4.0 out of 5 stars Always a HeroJuly 12, 2015
This review is from: Daughter of Valor (Kindle Edition)
Daughter of Valor is a tale with a heroic and well written cast of characters bringing together the back story of the short vignettes in Emily Mims military stories, intertwining and expanding on the lives of her wounded warriors while bringing us a whole new tale to love.

Politics and fighting for what's right don't always mix as Jimmy finds out. A war veteran with politics in his blood, the only money he finds to back him forces him into a corner he isn't comfortable in. Despite that, he forges ahead forgoing love and what he knows is right. Jimmy refuses to admit that the war in Iraq has left a lasting impression on him. He survived when not all of his men did.

Holly finds that love and politics don't mix. She isn't willing to give up her principles for Jimmy. A wounded veteran, Holly stands on the side of what's right, and giving up Jimmy breaks her heart but she can survive anything as she already knows. She will make a difference in the lives of all the broken warriors that come to her for help, even those like Jimmy that refuse to see the continuing effect that war has made on their every day lives.

When someone starts targeting her veteran's group with escalating violence, implicating Jimmy's campaign, Holly continues to fight back as best she can. Jimmy comes to realize that Holly is the most important thing in his life and he will not let her fall to the madman targeting his community. Together they must fight back, finding common ground to save not only their lives, but the love they share.
