Saying Goodbye

As some of you may have heard, my partner in crime, Tamara Hoffa passed away on Monday 10/22/2018 in a fatal automobile crash.

I'm sad, so sad. Grieving is an awful process. All the plans we had, the calls and messaging are done. I can't imagine how hard this is for her beloved husband and children. Tamara was the best. I won't be posting until after her memorial is done and I get home. I'm heading from Wisconsin down to Tennessee. I will return on Monday with regular postings. We made this blog, our facebook and twitter pages, and the SSLY Reading Room together. Posting anything will be bittersweet. It will bring her memory to me everyday.

From making snow angels in the snow in our PJ's to making plans our husbands didn't know about, we have been friends since high school. Even when we lost touch for a couple of years, we made our way back to each other. Life will be a little less full without her. Tamara's Memorial will be this Friday from noon to 3:00 pm at the Hurricane Chapel Freewill Baptist Church 500 N Hurricane Creek Rd. McEwen TN 37101-4401.

A Gofund me account has been set up to help pay Tamara's Memorial Expenses. Hug your family tight. Talk to those friends you've been putting off calling because you just didn't have time. Tomorrow might just be too late.

Don't forget to check out her author page! Tamara was a very talented author and any book sales will still go to her account.

Dead Men Tell No Tales

I've been in a bit of a slump. I'm stuck on my dragon story, Finding Faith. I'm stuck on my erotic short, Triple D: Enticed by the Cowboy. So... I went into my manuscript file to see what caught my eye. I settled on a bit called 'the old lady'. LOL. I think I should call it, 'I'm not old, dammit!' I read it, laughed and started writing again. From the story line so far, I must have been pissed at my husband. I killed him off! 28 years of marriage and being a writer will do that I guess.
Better than arsenic or a bat when he's sleeping or any of the real ways to bump him off!

So, I'm not sure where this will lead. A middle aged... cough cough... romance probably. Dead husbands, meddling family, even if they mean well, and who knows? maybe a ghost! No clue where it's headed, but at least I'm writing again! I moved my desk up into a corner in the bedroom. Writing in the dining room wasn't working with my daughter and granddaughter now living with us. But wrapped in pajamas and finally comfortable and able to reach my computer even in the middle of the night to write will do wonders! I write when I'm happy I guess, and comfortable.

Since my husband helped me get my desk situated, I wouldn't bump him off now, but since I already did...  :) I'm going with it! If I look, I probably have more bits like that. I have a temper and he sets it off without even meaning to poor guy! So I put it down in words and let it go. We don't fight a lot, just snipe at each other for a bit and settle back down. When I hear my mother coming out of my mouth, I shut up, LOL.

So, catch up on some of my books, I will be putting something out still this year, though my schedule was railroaded with the girls moving back home. I'm too close to the end on at least three books to not get at least one out. So your guess is as good as mine which one it will be!

Here is the victim of my paper crime, lol. Pirate day at Red Lobster.

So, if you are in West Bend WI on Sept. 23rd visit me!

Threshold’s Showcase of Authors IV being held on Saturday, September 23rd at the Lawrence and Vivian Stockhausen center, 2380 West Washington Street, West Bend, Wisconsin

The event runs from 10 AM to 1:30 PM.

This will be my last signing until April. Then I'll be at the Northern Iowa Book Bash!

Here's what I've been up to - and it hasn't been writing!

I haven't had as much time to write as I'd like! My daughter and granddaughter are moving back in with us. I've been busy tearing down plaster and prepping a room for drywall. You can see my progress. This was the first wall!
16231013_380845968942558_8740038592279085056_n Then I moved around the room. My house was 100+ years when we bought it 23 years ago!16124273_261117930987371_9210772058802225152_n
Here you can see me in all my gear! Even with the PPE (personal protective equipment) I still had dust and bruises all over me from falling plaster! I looked like I had been beaten by elves!
Behind me you can see where the door used to be. We moved it years ago to put a second bathroom in the house.16230554_679875265526571_7224255753467461632_n
The most dangerous part was the ceiling. That's why I bought and wore the hardhat. Unfortunately they didn't have breast plates! Never had I had so many bruises on that part of my body, lol.
16124317_225274311271403_698303897839599616_n1
You can see the progress! The door and window trims have all been taken down and stripped. The floor molding will have to be done in place. It was put on with three inch nails that aren't moving! I'll be working on that today, along with calling a drywall man to see when he can come in and complete it.
16584013_255989071512487_6066698832391962624_n
You can see the ceiling, windows and two of the walls! I'm leaving the lathe in place as it is heck to get down! I had to remove it in our bathroom, but never again! It will just add another layer of insulation. I'm good with that.
16788514_1847298695509679_6521655784525266944_n
You can see how filthy I am at the end of the day! Mind you, this is after putting in at least 8 hours at my regular job and another 2-3 hours working on the bedroom. I definitely won't be using this as my author photo, lol!
16585670_172374989919881_6386047655352467456_n
Since I have about 2 weeks before they move back in, I need to finish this room asap! My books are on a holding pattern. Even if I'm not happy about it, family has to come first. Repairing this room will give the girls the two biggest rooms. My husband and I will be moving into the room we're redoing. The smallest bedroom at 15 x 13, it is still a good size. Not to mention it gets the best sunlight in the house!

So, once they are back home, I'll be able to get on with my writing. I'm close to completing the edits I want on A Dragon's Treasure and then I'll send it off to a professional editor while I hunt down a cover. I'm hoping for a March release but realistically, it will probably be April.

Hope your Saturday isn't as busy or as dirty as mine will be!
If you're looking for something to read, check out my author page! One of my books, Stealing Hope has been reduced to $2.99. I also have a new release, Rise of the Dragons out for .99!

TripleDDude Ranch_fullresTriple D Dude Ranch

Blaire is a freelance photographer on assignment. She is heading home to Texas, armed with her camera to do a photo feature for the Tribune. Dan was expecting a photographer but not the sexy urban cowgirl that arrived. He knew it was hot out, he just hadn’t expected the hot and sexy woman to make him burn the minute he caught sight of her. One look and he had to quench this fire inside.

One touch between Dan and Blaire sparks a wildfire that burns hotter than the Texas summer and is just as hard to put out.

Bats? Ruining writing time?

Saving Wisconsin's bats

Bats are a vital part of many ecosystems. They help control pests and are pollinators and seed-dispersers for countless plants. As predators of biting insects, bats may also play an important role in reducing risk of insect-borne diseases, such as the West-Nile Virus. For now, Wisconsin's bat population is stable. But a deadly fungus is racing through cave-dwelling bat populations in eastern states causing extensive mortality, and unfortunately reached the southwest corner of the state in spring 2014.

For more of the story check out:
Why bats?
They are causing the lack of writing time in my household.
Say what?
Truth! My daughter and granddaughter (the cuteness!) have bats in their apartment. It is illegal to remove bats when they might be nesting. Early spring and late fall is the time they can be moved.
How do I know? :) How do you think? I had to have my house bat proofed! They managed to find their way into mine and out into the rooms! A man and a large bill later and I've been bat free for 4 years.
So, since the bats aren't moving, my daughter did - back home. A six week old darling keeps grandma here busy! Too darn busy to touch the keyboard. I'm having to sneak in writing time and it's proving almost impossible!
Thank goodness I have one story coming out in a box set on 9/19/2015, another in edits coming out in October and I'm working on following up my beta readers suggestions on another to get that story submitted.
No time for writing anything new.

No Heart Left Behind is the name of the box set.
Join us on Sept 19 at 10:00 am central time for our release party. Lots of fun and twelve authors in all to meet and greet. I'll be on at 6:00 pm central time, but please join sooner!

WIP A Dragon's Treasure ~ Music Inspiration

Let me say, I don't normally listen to music for writing. It distracts me and I end up dancing. AND I dance like no one is watching, LOL. Luckily, no one normally is.

Here are some of the songs that get me in the mood to write.

They are songs to make you writhe between the sheets.
Or dance until you want to!

Enjoy!

Of course I'm not sure if it's the song or the sight of Adam Levine. YUM!

Blogging from A to Z: Fate

F is for Fate
fate
fāt/
noun
  1. 1.
the development of events beyond a person's control, regarded as determined by a supernatural power.
"fate decided his course for him"
    synonyms:destinyprovidence, the stars, chanceluck,serendipityfortunekismetkarma
"what has fate in store for me?"

  2. 2.
    GREEK & ROMAN MYTHOLOGY
the three goddesses who preside over the birth and life of humans. Each person's destiny was thought of as a thread spun, measured, and cut by the three Fates, Clotho, Lachesis, and Atropos.
    synonyms:the weird sisters;
    the Parcae, the Moirai, the Norns;
    ‘Clotho,Lachesis, and Atropos’
verb
  1. 1.
be destined to happen, turn out, or act in a particular way.
"the regime was fated to end badly"
    synonyms:be predestined, be preordained, be destined, be meant, be doomed;
be sure, be certain, be bound, be guaranteed

I love the thought of fate. I based my coming series of dragon shifters on it. A Dragon's Fated Heart series. Stealing Hope (book 1) is due out in August 2015.
Not everything depends on fate. There is still freewill.

In mythology the goddesses were always having trouble with people and other gods/goddesses trying to change fate. One string cut in the wrong spot or a string put back together that should have been cut changes the fabric of reality.

So, fate can be fluid. Perhaps just certain actions are preordained. The minutiae of daily life may not change the person you are fated to be with.

In the case of my dragon shifters, fate kicks in when their mate is ready. No lusting over someone too young or not ready. Here's a short excerpt to explain:

Stealing Hope excerpt:

Ari and his siblings looked at each other and nodded. On occasion he and Crag had snuck out and closer to the surface, curious. But in the past few centuries nothing had called to them, nothing as exciting as the lure of gold to add to their stashes, as fun as digging raw gems from the earth. Now Ari could feel an insistent pull towards the north. Crag was sneaking similar peeks in that direction. Together they would explore like they had as hatchlings.
“You all feel a pull.” They nodded at their dam’s words. “This happens when your mate is born. Follow the directions where your heart pulls you. They might have years to go to be ready for you, so acquaint yourselves with the world around you.” She proudly gazed at them.
“Be cautious. Be careful. Your mates will need you strong and brave in this world. You must fit in to survive.” They nodded, taking his words to heart. Their sire cast a look, THE look in Ari and Crag’s direction. “You two. Behave.” Ari and Crag’s eyes whirled in amusement as their dam shook her head.
